First Nations Community Building Retrofit Program

This program provides up to $330,000 in funding and technical support to on-reserve First Nation communities in Ontario to undertake energy-efficiency projects in band-owned commercial and institutional facilities. Participants receive on-site energy assessments, benchmark reports, and project support to help communities improve energy efficiency, manage electricity use, and reduce energy costs.

What it can fund
- Upgrade indoor and outdoor lighting to energy-efficient systems
- Install smart thermostats and window air conditioning controls
- Retrofit complex systems such as variable frequency drives and ice rink refrigeration
- Conduct feasibility studies for major energy-efficiency retrofit projects
- Improve water and wastewater treatment plant efficiency
